These were some really fast sketches I did this morning but they turned out nice. The original drawings were A1 pen on plain white paper then I snapped a picture of them took them into Photoshop desaturated, inverted and adjusted them to come out like this. Very quickly thinking in the negative is great fun, when shading becomes lighting the tables are turned. It's interesting to play with line weight too. Just thought I would put it out there and recommend you try it if you haven't already but don't cheat and draw in white on black paper, the experience is completely different.

Maybe relating this new project to time will give me a sense of perspective as I head to university at the end of the summer. I hope to produce a very meaningful and interesting collection of work during the next project which will be concluded with a 15 hour art exam, fun.Joe Robeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00098682049713549699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553108668871891336.post-70302661935593870212010-03-08T22:31:00.004+00:002010-03-08T22:58:44.779+00:00Assembly Rooms Exhibition 2010!
Posted before my school had chance! I then had to choose my materials, I wanted to work on paper as it is a smooth surface and means I don't have to paint the white areas. I used fineliners to outline all of the shapes as it is far more controlled than a paintbrush in the hands of myself meaning that I could get precise edges leaving fine lines of white where necessary. Having lined the image out I had left myself with a giant paint by numbers, with only one number, black. I tried a few different paints before hand and found that Gouache paints were best suited as they matched the fine liner and produced a perfect smooth black finish as if printed.

Joe Robeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00098682049713549699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553108668871891336.post-1608828549423104752010-01-15T21:57:00.002+00:002010-01-15T22:04:40.532+00:00Aspects of American Realism Final Piece 1 progress

Joe Robeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00098682049713549699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553108668871891336.post-88628504757306278802010-01-10T10:21:00.004+00:002010-01-10T10:35:45.354+00:00Aspects of American Realism Black and White 1
I have chosen to explore Black and White images along with a single colour for the remainder of my project, this was as I felt my Speedy Park was so successful and I wanted to try something a bit different before I begin my next project. This image has been drawn from one of Gordon Osmundson's black and white photographs although it could also be said that it is in connection with the designer of the car Raymond Loewy who was leading Industrial Designer. He developed endless company logo's including Shell he also designed the original Greyhound Bus. Of greater interest to me he designed the International Harvester Farmall lettered series of tractors. I used a combination of HB pencil and 4B Graphite sticks to achieve the tight detail and absolute black tones within the drawing.

Joe Robeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00098682049713549699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553108668871891336.post-79022151688315886052009-10-11T20:34:00.002+01:002009-10-11T20:42:18.591+01:00Aspects of American Realism 3
Now I am making progress with my artist connections, this is the first.
